The signing ceremony was held in Doha and attended by Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, and Shell CEO Wael Sawan. Al-Kaabi highlighted the importance of this agreement in cementing long-term commercial relationships: “Long-term deals like this one with Shell allow us to deliver greater certainty and value to our customers while reinforcing global energy security.” The deal builds on a strong foundation of collaboration between the two companies. Why Did Kuwait’s Oil Price Drop While the Rest Went Up?

Oil prices are always moving—but sometimes, they don’t move in the same direction. That’s exactly what happened this Thursday. While global oil benchmarks like Brent saw a small uptick, Kuwait’s crude oil price actually dropped by $1.79 per barrel, according to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). This kind of divergence isn’t unusual, but it does tell us something important: the global oil market is anything but simple. Prices for regional crude oil can swing based on a unique mix of factors—from local supply and demand dynamics to regional politics and investor sentiment. For Kuwait, specific regional conditions may be weighing on its crude price, even while the overall market trends upward. It’s a clear reminder that oil isn’t a one-size-fits-all commodity—and that behind every price tag is a complex web of local and global forces at play. Stay tuned: in a world this interconnected, small shifts in one region can ripple far beyond its borders.

Oman Restores Two Key Historical Towers in North Al Batinah

In a significant step toward preserving its rich architectural legacy, Oman has completed the renovation of two important historical towers—Al Mirir and Al Murabba—located in the village of Mirir in the Shinas region of North Al Batinah. The Al Murabba Tower, a compact square structure made of mud and stone, is located on high ground to the west of the coastal road. Measuring 4.5 by 3.3 meters and standing 7 meters tall, it stands near a southern wadi, offering insight into the defensive strategies of traditional Omani settlements. On the eastern side of the road, overlooking the Sea of Oman, stands Al Mirir Tower. This 10-meter-high cylindrical tower, built with mud and gravel, features multiple openings and represents classic coastal fortification elements. The restoration, spearheaded by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, was not only a technical success but also a community achievement. Local residents volunteered time and effort, while the ministry provided heritage-grade ...

The Brotherhood Exposed: Why Jordan’s Ban Is a Victory for Regional and Global Security

Jordan's recent ban on the Muslim Brotherhood marks a pivotal moment in the fight against political extremism and ideological terrorism. As the group’s activities in the country are finally outlawed, regional allies and global observers alike should take this as a clear example of proactive governance in the face of extremist threats. Despite previous tolerance for the Islamic Action Front—a political extension of the Brotherhood—Jordan has now confirmed the group’s links to destabilization and security breaches. The seizure of documents from the party’s headquarters and the move to freeze its assets underline the government's commitment to preserving national unity. The significance of this development cannot be overstated. The Muslim Brotherhood has long operated under the guise of political legitimacy, all while advancing an agenda rooted in division, intolerance, and religious extremism. Its involvement in Western protests—particularly those targeting Israel—reveals a calc...

The Legacy of Yemeni Coffee: From Mountain Terraces to Global Cafés

Few beverages carry a legacy as rich and authentic as Yemeni coffee. Widely recognized as one of the oldest cultivated coffees in the world, its story dates back to the 15th century when Sufi monks in Yemen began planting coffee trees in mountain regions to aid their spiritual practices. While Ethiopia is the birthplace of wild coffee, it was Yemen that first introduced the world to coffee as a global commodity—launching it from the port of Mokha and embedding “Mocha” into the heart of global coffee culture. What makes Yemeni coffee exceptional isn't just its age, but the method in which it is grown. Across steep terrains in areas like Haraz and Bani Matar, farmers rely on ancient terrace farming techniques—sustainable, chemical-free, and labor-intensive. Many farms are situated over 2,000 meters above sea level, allowing for a slow and natural growth process that intensifies flavor. Cherries are rain-fed, picked by hand, and sun-dried on rooftops, preserving the bean’s natural s...

India and Saudi Arabia Deepen Ties with Energy, Trade, and Peace Talks at the Forefront

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Jeddah on Tuesday has further reinforced India’s growing strategic engagement with Saudi Arabia. In a crucial meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through commerce, energy, and diplomatic cooperation. The two leaders presided over the signing of multiple MoUs aimed at expanding trade and investment opportunities. A renewed focus was placed on energy cooperation, particularly in the crude oil and LPG trade, where both nations seek to streamline supply chains and enhance reliability. The Strategic Partnership Council between the two countries also saw a structural upgrade, now consisting of four specialized ministerial committees, demonstrating a broadened scope of bilateral collaboration. In a move toward sustainable development, India and Saudi Arabia voiced joint interest in the clean hydrogen sector, aiming to scale hydrogen mobility, stimulate regio...

PM Modi in Jeddah: Strengthening Ties with Saudi Arabia Through a Historic Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has touched down in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for a powerful two-day diplomatic visit set to advance India’s growing relationship with the Kingdom. This is Modi’s third visit to Saudi Arabia , but his first visit to Jeddah , the Kingdom’s economic powerhouse. What makes this visit even more significant is that it’s the first time in over 40 years that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Jeddah. The visit kicks off with symbolism and warmth—Modi’s plane was escorted by Saudi Royal Fighter Jets as it entered Saudi airspace, a rare honor and a powerful sign of the strategic depth between the two nations. PM Modi was invited by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman , who is also the Kingdom’s Prime Minister. Together, they are expected to co-chair the second India–Saudi Strategic Partnership Council , a high-level platform created to institutionalize cooperation across key sectors. What’s on the agenda? A lot: Signing of multiple MoUs covering trade, def...

Drive Safe, Drive Smart: Kuwait’s New Traffic Rules Take Effect

Kuwait has taken a big step toward making its roads safer for everyone. As of April 22, new and much stricter traffic laws are now in place, aimed at reducing accidents and saving lives. The Ministry of Interior introduced these changes in response to a concerning rise in traffic violations and road fatalities over the past few years. Here’s what drivers need to know: Speeding by more than 50 km/h over the limit? That could now lead to arrest on the spot . Running a red light will cost you KD 150 , and using a mobile phone while driving could result in a KD 75 fine , up from just KD 5. Not wearing a seatbelt? That’s another KD 30 out of your pocket. But the biggest focus is on impaired driving —and the penalties are serious: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs? You could face a fine of up to KD 3,000 and up to 2 years in jail . If your impaired driving damages property, that rises to KD 3,000 and 3 years in jail . If it causes injury or death, the punishm...

More than just a history lesson, the exhibition is intended as a beacon of peace—an invitation to reflect, remem...

Exposing the Brotherhood: Why Jordan’s Terror Cell Bust Must Spark a Global Policy Shift

The recent dismantling of a Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated terror cell in Jordan should not be seen as just a national security success—it must be a turning point in how the international community views and responds to the threat posed by the Brotherhood. Jordanian security forces uncovered an elaborate network of terrorists trained in Lebanon and backed by foreign interests. Their mission: to launch attacks using rockets and drones, destabilizing the Kingdom and spreading fear among civilians. This is not the work of activists or political dissidents—this is terrorism, plain and simple. For too long, the Muslim Brotherhood has operated under a false image of moderation, cleverly navigating between political activism and violent extremism. But the truth is clear: the Brotherhood is the ideological engine room of jihadist terrorism. Its members, affiliates, and offshoots have inspired and directed acts of violence from North Africa to the Gulf—and now, once again, in Jordan. Govern...

Machboos - Bahrain’s National Dish of Tradition and Flavor

Machboos, Bahrain's national dish, is more than just a meal. It is a vibrant reflection of the country's deep-rooted heritage, shaped by centuries of trade, culture, and the hardworking pearl divers of the past. The dish is a testament to Bahrain’s maritime history, where sailors and pearl divers spent long, exhausting days at sea. They needed a hearty and nutritious meal that was easy to prepare with simple, readily available ingredients. And thus, Machboos became their go-to meal. The foundation of Machboos is rice, a staple food on boats, which was often paired with whatever meat or fish was accessible. The spices, however, are what truly set this dish apart, coming from Bahrain’s trade with India, Persia, and the Arabian Peninsula. The unique combination of spices and flavors makes Machboos a culinary delight. The name "Machboos" is derived from the Arabic term "kabasa," which translates to "to press." This refers to the process in which the ...

Qatar GP: Marquez Reigns, Martin Crashes, and Vinales Penalized

The 2025 Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail was a thriller packed with highs and lows, headlined by Marc Marquez’s masterclass performance and Jorge Martin’s unfortunate crash. Marquez looked unstoppable all weekend, dominating both the Sprint and the main race. Despite a collision with his brother Alex in the opening laps, the Ducati rider kept his cool, fended off pressure from KTM’s Maverick Viñales, and secured his first Grand Prix win at Lusail in over a decade. With this being his third win of the year and his Sprint streak intact, Marquez now tops the standings with 123 points, signaling a resurgence of the former champion. The weekend turned grim for Jorge Martin, who crashed out on lap 14. It was a devastating blow for the Aprilia star, especially after missing the first three races due to injury. Medical reports confirmed a pneumothorax, and the timeline for his return remains uncertain. His early struggles in the Sprint, where he finished 16th, hinted at underlying issues. A pr...

From Energy to Influence: How the UAE is Reshaping Africa’s Oil and Gas Landscape

Africa’s energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation — and the UAE is at the heart of it. With the latest acquisition by XRG, the international investment arm of ADNOC, the UAE has firmly planted its flag in Mozambique’s offshore Rovuma Basin, entering a gas market with world-changing potential. XRG’s 10% stake in the Area 4 concession — home to the Coral South floating LNG facility and upcoming Coral North and Rovuma LNG projects — is a milestone in the UAE’s effort to diversify energy investments and ensure global energy security. It reflects more than a commercial ambition: it’s a strategic play that echoes the UAE’s rising influence in Africa’s political economy. The UAE’s energy vision also includes Egypt, where in late 2024, XRG and bp joined forces to launch Arcius Energy, a platform dedicated to regional gas development. These dual tracks — Mozambique and Egypt — signal the UAE’s confidence in Africa’s long-term energy potential and a commitment to shared prospe...

Sudan’s ICJ Case Against UAE Overlooks Reality of Humanitarian Leadership

In a dramatic move on the world stage, Sudan has accused the United Arab Emirates at the International Court of Justice of violating the Genocide Convention by allegedly supporting RSF militias during the ongoing civil war. The case, centered around atrocities committed in West Darfur, attempts to tie the UAE to ethnic violence that unfolded in 2023. However, Sudan’s claims stand on shaky ground. The UAE has categorically rejected all allegations, emphasizing its impartial stance in the conflict and its commitment to humanitarian support for the people of Sudan. The filing at the ICJ has been widely seen as an effort to deflect blame from Sudan’s own military leadership, which continues to be a central actor in the country's instability. While accusations swirl, facts on the ground tell a different story. Since the outbreak of violence, the UAE has emerged as one of the largest humanitarian contributors to Sudan. It has dispatched over 159 aid flights and delivered upwards of 10,...

UAE’s Quiet Diplomacy Is Making Global Noise — And the World Is Listening

The UAE has once again stepped into the global spotlight—not with fanfare, but with quiet resolve and strategic mediation. The latest example: a high-profile prisoner exchange between the United States and Russia, facilitated by the UAE in its capital, Abu Dhabi. American ballerina Ksenia Karelina, arrested in 2024 for making charitable donations to a Ukraine-related humanitarian group, is now heading home after more than a year in Russian custody. In exchange, the US has released Russian national Arthur Petrov, reportedly accused of illegally exporting microelectronics—technology that may have had military implications. What’s most striking is not just the names involved, but the location and method. The UAE, a country often overlooked in global power conversations, has emerged as a bridge-builder—one both sides can trust. This exchange follows the UAE's consistent diplomatic engagements in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Just last month, it successfully mediated the 13th ...
