The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) and Tadweer Group have signed a concession agreement with a Japan-based consortium, Marubeni Corporation, Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (HZI) , and Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN), to develop the Abu Dhabi Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Independent Power Project (IPP). The project, which is the world’s most advanced Waste-to-Energy facility, will have an annual processing capacity of 900,000 tonnes of waste, reducing carbon emissions by 1.1 million tonnes per year. This initiative will also contribute to the UAE’s goal of diverting 80 percent of Abu Dhabi’s waste from landfills by 2030.
