Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Jeddah on Tuesday has further reinforced India’s growing strategic engagement with Saudi Arabia. In a crucial meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through commerce, energy, and diplomatic cooperation.
The two leaders presided over the signing of multiple MoUs aimed at expanding trade and investment opportunities. A renewed focus was placed on energy cooperation, particularly in the crude oil and LPG trade, where both nations seek to streamline supply chains and enhance reliability.
The Strategic Partnership Council between the two countries also saw a structural upgrade, now consisting of four specialized ministerial committees, demonstrating a broadened scope of bilateral collaboration.
In a move toward sustainable development, India and Saudi Arabia voiced joint interest in the clean hydrogen sector, aiming to scale hydrogen mobility, stimulate regional demand, and share expertise in emerging technologies.
Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to mediate a peaceful solution in Yemen received strong endorsement from India, which commended Riyadh’s leadership in fostering regional reconciliation and pledged support for related international initiatives.
With bilateral trade flourishing—India now ranks as Saudi Arabia’s second-largest trading partner—the two countries underscored the importance of concluding discussions on their Bilateral Investment Treaty. This milestone is expected to pave the way for even stronger economic and strategic cooperation in the years ahead.
