UAE to invest $23 billion in next-gen energy sources over next five years

The UAE's ambitious $23 billion investment in next-generation energy solutions, particularly hydrogen and ammonia, marks a significant step in its energy transition strategy. By aiming to capture 5% of the global clean hydrogen market by 2030, the country is positioning itself as a key player in the emerging clean energy landscape. The dual approach of producing blue hydrogen, derived from fossil fuels, and green hydrogen, sourced from renewable energy, underscores the UAE's strategy to balance its existing fossil fuel operations with sustainable energy innovations. The plan to convert both types of hydrogen into ammonia for easier transport aligns well with global demand, particularly from countries like Japan and South Korea that are actively seeking ammonia imports for energy purposes. Additionally, the UAE's commitment to capturing and storing up to 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually by 2030, building on existing capacities, reflects a comprehensive approach ...

Explore Oman’s deepening focus on green hydrogen exports for a more sustainable future

Oman, a prominent oil exporter, is gaining momentum as a global hub for green hydrogen exports. The Gulf state is developing large green hydrogen projects to decarbonize its industries and produce the necessary gas through electrolysis.  Green hydrogen  is produced through water splitting into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from clean sources. Oman’s extensive experience in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) sector makes it a competent region to efficiently manage green hydrogen. Oman  plans to produce at least a million tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually by 2030, increasing capacity to 3.75 million tonnes by 2040 and 8.5 million tonnes by 2050. The International Energy Agency (IEA) expects Oman to become the sixth-largest exporter of hydrogen across the globe and the largest in the Middle East by the end of the decade. In 2018, Oman’s hydrogen sector received a substantial boost when state-run Hydrom inked six notable agreements worth $51 billion, involving...
