HH Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, Chairman of the International Philanthropic and Humanitarian Council, and Bill Gates, Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, recently met in the UAE. Both sides discussed the progress made by joint initiatives in global health and agriculture.
HH Sheikh Theyab and Gates - also the former CEO of Microsoft - explored strategies to strengthen their efforts to uplift livelihoods globally, including by combating different preventable diseases such as polio and neglected tropical diseases.
The UAE President has been making significant contributions to global efforts to eradicate polio. HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has also been funding an urgent polio vaccination campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Gates and Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed also discussed progress made by landmark decisions announced at the COP28 Summit - a climate conference hosted by the UAE in 2023. These include the Reaching the Last Mile Fund – first established in 2017 by the UAE President.
On his recent trip to the UAE, Bill Gates also lauded the UAE’s profound dedication to improving the lives and livelihoods of all. Discussions also focused on the progress made by the UAE-Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation partnership to accelerate global climate action.
