Currently, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed is in Russia for the BRICS Summit, where he expressed readiness to support efforts toward achieving peace between Russia and Ukraine. On Sunday, he held an informal conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the UAE's continued efforts to mediate prisoner exchanges between the two countries, reaffirming the UAE's willingness to assist in resolving the crisis in the interests of peace for both sides.
Since the start of 2024, UAE mediation efforts have successfully facilitated nine prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. This month alone, the Gulf state helped secure the release of 190 captives, bringing the total number of exchanged prisoners to 2,184.
In addition to diplomatic mediation, the UAE has been actively supporting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. The Gulf state has reportedly contributed $105 million in financial aid to Ukraine's humanitarian crisis. The UAE has distributed over 1,000 tonnes of food and relief supplies, 7,500 laptops, and 10,000 school bags.
