Uae President in Russia for BRICS Summit: Understanding deepening Uae-Russia economic cooperation

 


UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed's visit to Russia highlights the strengthening of UAE-Russia relations, marked by a special dinner involving President Vladimir Putin. Both leaders emphasized bolstering bilateral ties.

Sheikh Mohamed is also expected to attend the 16th BRICS Summit, marking UAE's first participation as a member of the organisation. The official Emirati delegation accompanying His Highness includes key ministers like Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and Dr. Sultan Al-Jaber.

UAE investments in Russia focus on energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and technology, with entities like Mubadala leading major projects in these sectors to diversify the UAE's economy.

If history is taken into consideration, the Uae and Russia shared a relatively modest bilateral relationship, characterised by cautious political engagement and limited economic interactions. But things have considerably changed over the past couple of decades.

The main focus of Uae investments in Russia is a diversified economic portfolio. The UAE has already made sizeable investments in the Russian energy sector in the recent years. The same is the case for Emirati focus on Russia's technology, agriculture and infrastructure.
