UAE mediation efforts facilitate ninth Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange in 2024


The Uae has successfully facilitated the ninth Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange, leading to the release of 190 detainees. This brings the total number of prisoners exchanged under UAE mediation to 2,184.

The UAE's mediation efforts have earned the trust of both nations, underscoring the country's diplomatic role in de-escalating the ongoing conflict. Additionally, the exchange precedes UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed's upcoming visit to Russia for the BRICS Summit.

Russia and Ukraine have been fighting a brutal conflict since February 2022. The tense situation has been making global headlines ever since. Besides the prisoner exchanges, the UAE also seeks to mitigate humanitarian repercussions resulting from the fighting.

In its statement, the Emirati foreign ministry emphasised that the success of the latest mediation demonstrates the cooperative and friendly relations Russia and Ukraine share ith the UAE. The statement noted the importance of dialogue and de-escalation.
