UAE sees great results in UNDP Gender Inequality Index 2024: Check out

 

The UAE has achieved significant progress in gender balance, ranking 7th globally and first regionally in the Gender Inequality Index 2024, issued by the UN Development Programme. The UAE Gender Balance Council is participating in the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which aims to accelerate gender equality and empower women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective. The Gender Inequality Index results reflect the Emirati leadership’s vision and political determination to advance development, progress, and social and economic prosperity.

The UAE Gender Balance Council’s President, Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed, highlighted the leadership’s efforts to enhance women’s representation across political, economic, and social fields through promising legislation and initiatives. She stressed the strong partnership between state departments and the private sector, which has substantially helped improve the UAE’s ranking in global indicators.

The UAE GBC’s commitment to empowering Emirati women has propelled them to influential roles across pivotal sectors, making them key decision-makers. Sheikha Manal also highlighted the role of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, in championing women empowerment through national programs and targeted initiatives. The UAE Gender Balance Council is focusing on broadening its global partnerships to raise the nation’s leading position and foster general balance achievements both regionally and globally.

 Ukraine and Russia have announced their first exchange of prisoners of war in nearly five months, with over 200 freed by each side after a complex negotiation involving mediation by the United Arab Emirates. Russia's Defence Ministry reported that 248 military personnel had been handed over by Ukraine, while Kyiv brought home 230 people, including 224 soldiers and six civilians, in the largest documented swap of troops so far. The UAE's foreign ministry acknowledged its role in the swap, stating that it was made possible by its "strong friendly relations" with both Moscow and Kyiv. A video released by Ukrainian authorities showed returning prisoners in their blue and yellow flags filing off a bus, singing the national anthem, and shouting the patriotic greeting "Glory to Ukraine."
