UAE: Digital School’s ‘Donate Your Own Device’ campaign collects 32,000 devices for underprivileged students
The Digital School, launched by UAE Prime Minister HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid in November 2020, has collected over 32,000 electronic devices to support underprivileged students’ digital education journey.
The initiative targets less privileged societies, refugees, and displaced persons using modern educational materials and curricula. With over 160,000 beneficiaries and services in at least 13 countries, the Digital School has trained over 2,500 digital teachers and provides educational and training content in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish.
The devices collected include 36% computers, tablets, smartphones, 30% other electronic devices, and 34% accessories. The devices are set to be refurbished or recycled in an environmentally safe manner. The campaign represents a significant partnership for education and sustainability, serving as a global model for effectively addressing pressing challenges in the field of digital education.
The success of the campaign and notable contributions reflect the importance of giving among Emirati residents and their keenness to promote sustainable practices. The announcement supports the objectives of the ‘Global Recycling Day’, which aims to highlight the role of recycling in preserving the planet’s resources and securing the future of all living organisms.
