Sultan Haitham City and the Efforts Toward Sustainability in Oman's Ambitious Environmental Initiative

Oman has always been renowned for its attention to environmental preservation, but it is currently making significant progress in its commitment to innovation and renewable energy. 'Sultan Haitham City,' an important development located close to Muscat's capital - this innovative concept, created by the famous American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM), who also created Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa, aims for new sustainable life in cities.

100,000 people are expected to live in Sultan Haitham City, which will have 19 colorful communities and 20,000 eco-friendly homes across 14.8 square kilometers. According to SOM's master plan, the environment of the city will feature facilities to convert waste to energy, electric car facilities, solar power plants, and water recycling. It's an example of sustainability and an environmental way of living, and it might be finished in 2045 after the first phase of work extends through the end of this decade. However, information on the level of implementation of green energy is still lacking.

Even if Oman's Sultan Haitham City project shows a strong symbol of development as a green city, it is not the only country in the region engaged in this activity. Although it has delays, Saudi Arabia's $500 billion Neom smart city project, which will accommodate 9 million people, is also expected to run only on renewable energy. With initiatives like Masdar City, the United Arab Emirates has been at the top of the drive for sustainable cities.

Sky Care: How the UAE’s First Hospital Vertiport is Redefining Emergency Response

Imagine a critical patient, a time-sensitive organ for transplant, or a specialist medical team needed across a bustling city. On the ground, traffic is a formidable adversary, where every minute lost can alter outcomes. Now, imagine that same journey taking minutes instead of an hour, not by navigating the roads, but by soaring gracefully above them. This is not a scene from a sci-fi film; it is the new reality in the United Arab Emirates. In a landmark move that solidifies its position on the global stage of innovation, the UAE has officially launched the nation’s — and the region’s — first hospital-based vertiport at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. This isn’t just a helipad with a new name. It is the cornerstone of a fully integrated, city-wide advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem, marking a profound convergence of cutting-edge aviation, AI-driven healthcare, and sustainable infrastructure. The Launch of a Lifesaving Corridor The project is a powerful collaboration between aviati...

Three Houses, One Vision – How the UAE’s Abrahamic Family House is Redefining Inter-Faith Dialogue

When you step onto the stone-plinth of the Abrahamic Family House on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, you are not just visiting a building. You are entering a bold statement: a mosque, a church and a synagogue standing side-by-side, equal in size and purpose, sharing common ground while respecting their separate faiths. A landmark of coexistence In early 2023 the UAE inaugurated this pioneering complex, inviting worshippers and visitors alike. The architecture — designed to give each of the three faith-homes the same external dimensions and to signal equality — allows each to express its own traditions while remaining visibly part of a unified vision. More than 200 nationalities live in the UAE, which means the project reflects a multicultural reality in which multiple faiths and identities coexist daily. Islam’s role in the vision For Muslim-majority audiences in the Gulf, the Abrahamic Family House sends a resonant message: Islam does not fear dialogue — it embraces it. The m...

The World's New Safe Harbour? Why Global Capital is Flowing to the UAE's Shores

As storm clouds gather over the global economy, investors are searching for a safe harbour. Their compasses, increasingly, are pointing towards the Arabian Gulf. The International Monetary Fund’s recent endorsement of the UAE—projecting a rise to 4.8% GDP growth in 2025—is a powerful signal that this nation has transcended its regional role to become a global player of immense strategic importance. This isn't just growth; it's a geopolitical realignment, positioning the UAE as a stable, connected, and opportunistic hub in a fractured world. For European partners, the UAE’s appeal is multifaceted. Its rapid ascent as a regulated hub for virtual assets and fintech provides a perfect bridge for European digital finance initiatives seeking a forward-looking testing ground. Simultaneously, the UAE’s ambitious climate agenda, crystallized in its pioneering Climate Law and legacy of hosting COP28, creates a powerful synergy with the European Green Deal and the continent's massiv...
