Unveiling the Spectacular: NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Centre's Enthralling 9th Season


The curtains are set to rise on a mesmerizing new chapter as the NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Centre unveils its eagerly awaited ninth season. Spanning from August 2023 to May 2024, this season promises to be a tapestry of creativity, featuring a captivating blend of concerts, dance performances, and film screenings. A standout feature of the lineup is the renowned Barzakh Festival, a two-day musical extravaganza that has carved a niche as a pulsating hub for world music. As anticipation swells, the Arts Centre holds the spotlight, ready to unravel a series of awe-inspiring moments and artistic discoveries.

A symphony of the senses awaits, with the Arts Centre meticulously curating a journey through diverse artistic realms. The season boasts an array of premieres, both regional and international, poised to enthral audiences. Among the luminaries gracing the stage is the Asian Dub Foundation, poised to captivate with their musical prowess, and the soul-stirring Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto, who pays tribute to the legacy of her father, Joao Gilberto. Delving into uncharted territories, the season invites viewers into an immersive exhibition named "Now Is When We Are (the stars)", a spectacle woven from thousands of points of light and a symphony of sound. "Mehek", a performance by British-Indian choreographer Aakash Odedra and Indian Kathak dancer Aditi Mangaldas, promises to challenge societal notions of love, creating an intimate connection with the audience.

The heartbeat of the season is the vibrant Barzakh Festival,  that brings together musical marvels from around the globe. The festival will feature enchanting artists such as Tunisian singer-songwriter Emel Mathlouthi and the Egyptian folk music collective Mazaher, ensuring a dynamic celebration of world music's kaleidoscope. As the season unfolds, the Arts Centre plans to captivate with a unique film concert, as the Philip Glass Ensemble provides a live score to the iconic 1982 film "Koyaanisqatsi". This cinematic masterpiece, renowned for its evocative imagery of cities and landscapes, is set to reach new heights with the fusion of live music.
