Strengthening UAE's Epidemic Preparedness: NCEMA Leads Multi-Entity Exercise


The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has taken a proactive step towards bolstering the UAE's ability to respond to potential infectious disease outbreaks. In a recent tabletop exercise, more than 20 crucial entities participated to enhance the nation's defense against epidemics. Among the participants were significant organizations including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health and Prevention, and the General Civil Aviation Authority.

The exercise was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies employed by each entity, leveraging their specific capabilities. The focal point was a collaborative approach, drawing insights from global responses to various epidemics and pandemics. In-depth discussions were held to improve communication channels, ensuring swift and accurate information dissemination among concerned authorities. Moreover, the exercise delved into media procedures, exploring ways to efficiently convey data and measures to the public under diverse circumstances.

Ali Saeed Al Neyadi, Chairman of NCEMA, emphasized the significance of reviewing past protocols, operations, and lessons learned. This exercise showcases the UAE's commitment to establishing a robust global framework for disaster management, capable of addressing complex challenges with exceptional efficiency.

 Ukraine and Russia have announced their first exchange of prisoners of war in nearly five months, with over 200 freed by each side after a complex negotiation involving mediation by the United Arab Emirates. Russia's Defence Ministry reported that 248 military personnel had been handed over by Ukraine, while Kyiv brought home 230 people, including 224 soldiers and six civilians, in the largest documented swap of troops so far. The UAE's foreign ministry acknowledged its role in the swap, stating that it was made possible by its "strong friendly relations" with both Moscow and Kyiv. A video released by Ukrainian authorities showed returning prisoners in their blue and yellow flags filing off a bus, singing the national anthem, and shouting the patriotic greeting "Glory to Ukraine."
