In response to alleged United States pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran to halt its drone sales to Russia, Moscow vowed on Saturday to preserve its military cooperation with Tehran.
Sergei Alexeyevich Ryabkov, a Russian politician who is currently serving as the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, said, “There are no changes, and cooperation with Iran will continue.”
He reportedly said in a report carried by state news agency RIA Novosti, “We are independent states and do not succumb to the dictates of the United States and its satellites.”
Days earlier, the commander of Iran's ground forces had stated during a visit to Russia that military cooperation between the two nations was growing on a daily basis.
The US Biden administration reportedly made the proposal as part of larger negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran that also included a recent prisoner exchange deal and were intended to address the Iranian nuclear program, according to the British Business Daily.
According to reports, an Iranian official reportedly said that his country requested that Russia stop utilizing drones built in Iran in Ukraine, but the US was looking for "more concrete steps."
According to the US and other Western nations, Iran assisted Russia in creating its own drones, which led to a strike on a Tehran site earlier this year.
The United States Biden administration has frequently said that Tehran was aiding the Russian officials. The US, the European Union, and the United Kingdom have all recently passed restrictions to stop the flow of drone components to Russia and Iran.
The US, the European Union, and the United Kingdom said that Russia used Iranian drones in its war against Ukraine. However, Iranian officials said that Iran provided drones to Russia before the start of the war in Ukraine.
The Shahed drones, an Iranian loitering munition, were reportedly purchased by Russia.
